Have a test PC with W98SE installed on one HD & W2K Professional on the other HD.

I was testing the BootIt utility and when the trial period expired I deleted it. Now cannot boot either W98 or W2K.

Tried running a Universal boot disk and accessed the W98 directory on C:\ Windows but the WIN command would not work.

Then created a Windows Boot Disk for W2K following the M$ KB Article Q101668 & copied Boot.ini , NTLDR & Ntddtect.com to a floppy from my other W2K PC. However this would not work – Non-system disk error.

Not sure what to try next.

Cricket, you're right for the wrong reason. I posted this on W98 & W2K because it concerns both O/S.

Not sure what that utility is, but it sounds like the type that replaces the mbr with its own. You probably should have uninstalled it instead of deleting it. That is in order to restore your original mbr.
There is a DOS utility for restoring the mbr, but my mind is going to peanut butter stage. something like c:\> mbr/f

Boot with a W98 boot disk. At the prompt type: [i]fdisk /mbr[/i.

That will repair the master boot record. If the program changed it then you will be able to run Win again. If not then the problem is more serious and perhaps you will have to reformat and reinstall.

I rebooted using the W98 boot disk and ran fdisk /mbr from the prompt. Still can't boot.
B....y marvellous this shareware s/w - it ought to carry a government health warning.

Use the 98 Boot Disk and type "sys c:" at the prompt. This should transfer the files necessary to make the disk bootable but it will only boot to 98.

Come to think of it you might try booting from the 2000 CDROM and using FIXBOOT from the console.
