I have a dell gx240+ and i'm currently using up all the internal IDE controllers for the CDRW,two hard drives and a zip drive. The problem is i want to add an additional internal dvd drive for real time cd burning. my question is is it advisable to buy an expansion card with an additional ide controller and is it possible that it might cause my pc to blow.thanks i'd apprecate any help

You can get one of the Ultra 66/100/133 controllers from Promise Technologies, they are probably the best to consider. You would connect your hard drives to this controller as they are not really designed for optical devices and don't always work well that way. Your DVD would then be connected to the motherboard.
Nope, you're not gonna blow up your PC with one of these controllers.
Hi,
may I ask you why you use your zip drive ? You probably don't need it.
Do you use the zip drive to copy data to share it with friends because they also have a zip drive ?
In this case, ok, you need it, and you would need an add-on card for the dvd drive.
Or do you use the zip drive only for yourself, means you save data there and don't give that data away. In that case I'd take it out, as you have a CD burner. If you want drag&drop, you just need a packet writing software (DirectCD, InCD, DLA. . .) running in the background and format the CDs you want to use as a drag&drop media.
