Help Me Figure This Out.

Before I put my upgrade together using my ATI Radeon DDR 64mb w/VIVO, I'd like to resolve this problem with drivers.
I can use the drivers from the install disk fine. When I try to use the latest drivers for this card is where the fun begins.
I am trying ATI driver # wme-radeon-4-13-01-9039-efg.
When I install the new drivers, I get a message,"ATI wdm inf" missing.
Why wouldn't the driver upgrade have that file, especially if I deleted the other in the old driver removal process?
Also, now there is another driver to be used as an option with the above driver called "tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125". Can someone help me with this one?
I'm real close to getting another video card and a divorce.:D

I had the same card...gave up on it about 8 months ago and bought my GF3

I still watch and laugh as my father attempts to make every new set of drivers released work..

The only way I could stand it was to leave MS's drivers for XP alone.

Maybe another question would be this. If the card works fine with the drivers from the install cd, what benefits are gained from installing newer drivers?
Do they offer more options, better refresh rate, more video capture options?

Well, for your original question, did you uninstall the old drivers first? I once tried to update my nVidia drivers but didn't uninstall the old ones. It was complete chaos. I didn't even know how I managed to get my PC back to normal.

Regarding your second question, unless there are fixes to bugs or you are a 3DMark fan, I'd better keep my old drivers if they work fine. You know the saying: "if it ain't broken you better don't fix it".

If you aren't trying to get the last bit of gaming performance out of the card, just stick with the CD drivers if they are working with no issues. Other than in the quest for the highest 3D Mark score, the only real reason to update is to solve known issues or if the new drivers have additional functionality that you need/want.

I know on my PCI original Radeon SDR with Win2K, the 6094 Catalyst drivers work just fine, but the 6118's have issues. I haven't tried the latest, but I don't think I will. My 3D Mark score sucks, but it handles what few games I play just fine and the overall display quality is outstanding.

I've got the same card and originally had driver issues with XP, but not on ME. When I did a re-install of XP, instead of upgrading I just loaded the new driver from scratch and it worked fine. I know it's a hassle to re-install but it's likely to resolve the driver issue.

I believe the TV capture driver is required to capture video over the media center video in applet.

I bought this card about a year ago, to capture video from my analog camcorder. It didn't cost much, and I guess you get what you pay for, but the video capture quality is less than what I expected.

Also, despite the fact that the card is more powerful than my GF2 MX, the video quality is not as good on Directx 6 games. (If you want to see something really poor, run 3D Mark 2000 with this card) The card works fine on Directx 7 and 8.

The ATI site says that with the ATI Radeon DDR 64mb VIVO, you should install the WDM Capture drivers before installing the graphics drivers.

Try loading the Capture ones and then reloading the graphics drivers.

I really got some good advice. I'll start putting this together this weekend and work to get the video card setup correctly.
If my video capture is not up to snuff, I'll have to look into a better way of doing it.

Update.
Got my new build together and Win98se loaded. Set the adapter to standard vga.
I installed the capture WDM drivers first and followed with the new ATI drivers second.
Error message: Missing 1kernel
What is 1kernel? My card is listed as a ATI 7200 as its suppose to but have no ATI Multimedia Center. If I wanted to capture video, hook up tv, or anything else, it would be a no-go.

I may be giving you info that you already know, but the Media Center is a separate file you'll need to download, or use from your original installation disk.

I just checked the ATI site. It said that you should load the DVD player version 7.6 before Media Center. I didn't see where it said to load the capture driver before the video driver.

i had problems with a Radeon VE driver.
make sure that it is a "built by ATI" and not powered by ATI.
they have different driver sets.

I don't blame you. The ATI driver install guide is as clear as mud.

Here is the page that suggests the Capture drivers should be installed before the graphics drivers.

No Sir! My fault. I should have said I'm using Win98se. But thats beside the point. When I went to get the drivers using the ATI part # for my card, it sent me to the correct drivers. As glc said, I'm not into heavy gaming nor am I worried about benchmark scores. I just want the card to do what I paid for.;)

Hmmm, I thought WDM drivers were for NT/2k/XP. I didn't think you could use WDM drivers with 9x/ME.

the WDM is used in Win9x as well.

ATI still advises installing the Capture drivers before the graphics drivers in Win98; so as long as you installed the Win98 Capture drivers Carl, that shouldn't have caused a problem.

Got a question though. Can I install just the ATI Multimedia Center from the original driver disk at this time? Or do I need to start over?

I would just try installing it. I haven't read anything at ATI that states you must install the MultiMedia centre before installing the graphics drivers. Just the Capture drivers.
