My girlfriend recently told me that her on board USB ports are not functioning since she reformated the HD. She says that the system tells her the USB prots are operating, but when she plugs things in like a printer or a camera, says that it cant fint it. I dont know but I dont think On Board USB ports need any drivers since they are on board. Also could this be maybe she just needs to install, lets say the printer software first? I am really kind of unsure why once she plugs them in that windows wouldnt pop up saying new hardware found and begin installation. Any ideas of what may be going on?
Windows 98 SE

"I dont think On Board USB ports need any drivers since they are on board."
Wrong.
Drivers are on the disk that came with the motherboard.

Never had the need for them before, what changed?
They are a controller just like your floppy controller and your IDE controller. For whatever reason when you installed Windows it didn't pick them up and install drivers for them. But with no drivers installed as far as Windows is concerned they are not there.
Check in Device Manager to see if the USB contollers are there. If they are remove them and reboot and windows will reinstall them for you.
That's a Via board. You need to install the drivers from the motherboard CD or download them from Via. You need the "4 in 1" drivers and the USB Filter driver if it's not part of the 4 in 1's.
Also, when you install USB devices, you MUST follow the manufacturer's installation sequence exactly - many devices require the drivers be installed and the machine rebooted before plugging the device in.
glc is right, I never noticed the Epox 8KT3A part.
