Got an old skool Gef2 Card...

I got this compaq puter Presario with it came a Savage 8 bit vid card.Well as a gamer I need to upgrade that card to something better so I bought and old Gf2 card to replace it.

I swapped the cards out and upon power up of my comp the monitor fails to power up with it.I get the monitor in "power save" mode.

I don't know how to rectify this problem.If anyone out there has any tips or ideas i'd surely appreciate your knowledge.

I did call the manufacturer and the tech there said it could be a bad card...or it is just not compatible...im just not satisfied with that as there must be many others who have had this problem with swapping out vid cards at some pt.

Perhaps it is a switch or a setting I just don't know but I want to try everything before I return the card.

is it PCI or AGP? what about the old Savage card?

The card is a S3 Inc. Savage4 GT 8mb Bitflip Engineering on a Sony Trinitron CPD-E200.I can see if it is PCI where I may have a problem but I don't know how to look see if it is a PCI or AGP as I am a complete noob at this.
I know it is an add card cuz I swapped it out ok.I'm reading as fast as I can and trying to absorb as much as I can about the PCI/AGP thing.

I have a suspicion the Savage is a PCI card altho I haven't been able to confirm it yet.If it is then what do I do? I know the GF2 is an AGP.I see only one slot open there.The other right beside it is covered in like a sheath or something.*sighs*

Might be onboard video. When your computer boots up, hold down the DEL key. Go into BIOS and look for something that rersembles "Disable on-board video". Then SNAP (tightly) in your AGP (brown slot) or PCI (white slot) video card. plug your monitor in the cards port. Upon bootup you should be on. You then have to install your video card's driver in order to have it working at it's full capacity. If you have achieved the above I recommend you go to nVidia's website and download their latest Detonator Driver.
