What kind of fan should you put on the front of the case. I have an exhaust fan in back, but I think I need an intake fan also. Are they hard to mount? Do they require case mods?
Thanks.

fc3646,
What brand of case are you using? Is there an intake screen at the front, under the drive cage? If so, it would be easy to mount a fan there and the size is normally 80mm.

Hi fc3646,

Any good quality 80mm ball bearing 4 pin fan will work fine as a intake fan (or exhaust fan). Brands like Sunon, Panaflo, Pabst, Vantec, Thermaltake, YST, Top Motor, Delta are all good quality brands to look at.

Use a 4 pin fan instead of a 3 pin. You want to connect the fan directly to the power supply, not the motherboard. You'll avoid possible power problems that way.

When mounting the fan, look on the casing for the arrows that show the direction of the airflow.

Like Carl mentioned, if there's a plastic fan holder in the lower front of the case, it's easy to install a fan...you just snap the fan into the plastic holder and then attach the holder to the case.

Some cases will have a place for a fan to be mounted but no plastic fan holder. There should be 4 holes available so that you can screw the fan to the case.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to get into the case again to check it out. I don't know the brand as I originally bought my computer from one of those mom&pop computer stores.
