Due to a recent hardware problem, I had to re-install windows xp. Now when I start up the system I get a dual boot option. One of the options works and one throws me back into the problem I had in the first place so obviosly I want to get rid of the old and keep the new. How can I do this. I need to remove the old installation and keep the new one so that when I start up the system it does not prompt me on "which os do want to start up?"

THanks

You might find the syntax you need in this article over at Anandtech, "How to Remove an OS from Dual Boot":

http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=109

It refers to editing the boot.ini file. When you're done, you might want to backup critical data & then try to remove (completely) the broken extra installation. . . I'm guessing you had to create a new partition?

Best of luck

Are they both installed on the same drive letter? If they are I dont know if I would mess with it to much, but you can edit the 'boot.ini' file and just delete out the one that refers to the XP that doesnt boot up right.
