XP shut down problem

I'v got a COMPAQ Presario 700 windows XP 1.0 GHZ 125 mb ram my problem is it will stut off all by it self at random no matter what the temp is around the computer it self


Is this a genaral problem with the computer (that MS can fix)or XP it self
and is there a fix for it

other then this the laptop it runs like a charm

Check your Power Supply Unit.

I can't say it's the power supply because it did this while running on batteries


I'd be surfing along on the net and BANG everything would shut off like I hit the power button and it did this while working on some graphics for my web page I'm glad it does this on XP because if it were win 95 or 98 it would suck

I'm hoppen theres a fix for it I'll keep searching it knowone can help here

Yes it is a heat related problem I tried 3 times to download QUICKTIME 6 viewer and is would shut down BUT this time I had a fan blowing on it and it downloaded all 4 MB with no problems


One thing I would like to know is there a fan you can put inside these Laptops to keep them cooler???

or is this something I'll just have to work around??

Doesnt the internal fan work? If not you should check it out. Other than that, there are products I've been tempted to get from : http://www.3dcool.com/?module=product&cat=12
There are USB equivalents of the same, but I wouldnt recommend it.
I used to see coolers that would go into PCMCIA slots, didnt find it anymore, hope u have better luck searching it out if you're interested.

Yes the internal fan works it shuts on and off by it self I think this is to save on battery power it must use some kind of temp sensor it's when the fan starts going on at high speed and don't shut off is a sign that it's over heating <this is when it always shuts off>

I was thinking of usen an outside fan that blows air into the vents on the back my self I'v got an old computer fan that can out of an old Apple computer that uses 110v for power

I'll let ya know how it works out
