Hi,
The instructions for dual booting with the same type of OS like W2K and W2k are slightly different than for W2k and Win98.
Unfortunately, I don't have XP at my place right now so I'll have to take a guess that it is done the same as for W2K.
Here are my notes for Dual Boot W2K and W2K. The first case is using two hard drives and the second case is using one hard drive.
Setting up Dual Boot W2K and W2K on two hard drives where W2k is already installed on the first drive and formatted as NTFS or FAT32.
1. Install the second hard drive, setting the first drive as Master and the new drive as Slave.
2. Boot to the existing system and insert the cdrom to start the installation of second W2K system. Be sure to select Clean Install not upgrade.
3. Accept the agreement and enter the Product Key. After copying some files, the machine will reboot and display several screens. I have only typed the selections, which should be chosen.
4. To set up Windows 2000 now, press ENTER.
5. To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows 2000 without repairing press ESC.
6. The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer.
· Highlight the New hard drive and select the following option....
· To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press C.
· To create the new partition, enter a size below and press ENTER.
7. That takes you back to the screen....
The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer.
· Highlight the New partition, which you just created and select the following option....
· To set up Windows 2000 on the selected item, press ENTER.
8. Format the partition as NTFS or FAT32 and the install will proceed.
9. After the install is complete, the BOOT MENU will be displayed showing both W2K systems.
10. You won't need to repair anything because W2k was originally installed on the C: partition and the files NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and BOOT.INI were left intact. You can edit the boot.ini file to display different names in the boot menu. Here is an example from my computer.
[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Second Install" /fastdetect
To Delete the second W2K from this installation and remove the Dual Boot configuration
1. Restart the computer with the Win98 Boot Disk and enter the Fdisk utility.
2. Delete the partition where you had installed the second W2K system, which is on the second hard drive. You may run into a problem where fdisk will not let you delete the partition where you installed the second W2K system. I have found that using the DOS based program Delpart to remove the partition is the easiest solution. Download a free copy here. http://hercules.lss.ksu.edu/download/MSSTUFF/
3. Reboot the computer to the original W2K system and edit the boot.ini file to remove any reference to the second W2k installation.
Setting up Dual Boot W2K and W2K on a single hard drive where W2k is already installed on the first partition and formatted as NTFS or FAT32.
1. Boot to the existing system and insert the cdrom to start the installation of second W2K system. Be sure to select Clean Install not upgrade.
2. Accept the agreement and enter the Product Key. After copying some files, the machine will reboot and display several screens. I have only typed the selections, which should be chosen.

To Delete the second W2K from this installation and remove the Dual Boot configuration
1. Restart the computer with the Win98 Boot Disk and enter the Fdisk utility.
2. Delete the partition where you had installed the second W2K system. You may run into a problem where an Extended partition is shown, but fdisk will not let you delete the logical partition where you installed the second W2K system.

Thanks Homey I will try that whenI get Home I tried to change the boot.ini haven't gotten it right yet,,so I will go over what you wrote,,and see what happens thanks homey,,
my xp is my main drive and is already booted i already have the 2k fully installed,,
after reading through your notes,,,I installed 2k by itself then started up the system like Hpro had said,,
so let me get this straight boot to xp insert win2k cd install on the new disk drive(just like installing programs)(i mean install with xp running) and then install that way and then reboot and the systems will autmaticlly go to the bootmanager?!!
Maybe that is why it is not working for me than,,,,
anyway to just boot to cd while running xp even though i already have 2k installed on 2nd hd or do i have to reformat and reinstall??

Hi,
If you have already installed the second OS, you may just need to edit the boot.in file.
Yes, the way I was talking about is to insert the cdrom will you are already using xp to start the new install. If you have already installed w2k, you don't need to do it again unless you want to practice.

Hi,
You edit the boot.ini file located on the C drive. If you had XP installed first, that is propably on the c drive and that is the one to modify.
