I found this link (http://members.microsoft.com/partner/campaign/Winpro2.aspx) the other day where you can get XP Pro for $39.99 plus $8.95 shipping. Plus you get a plug of big-league chew with it.

That's interesting. Is anybody here a member of that M$ for Partners group? What is it for? Do you have to sign your soul to Bill? :D

Most anything done with MS requires a .NET passport account but you really don't have to give them all that much info. Mostly name, address, phone number, type of work, etc. None of which is ever verified as far as I can tell.

is anyone going to order this?
i just signed up, and all they want is your name and stuff. 39.99 seems like a good deal for a legal copy.

what the hell. i ordered it. according to the info it should be here in 6-8 weeks.

Confused

I ordered and received it 10-12 weeks ago. Only took a couple of weeks to get. WINXP Pro, some chew, bubble head doll and baseball. I thought the offer ended at end of July. Haven't loaded it yet, but just couldn't pass up XP Pro for that price. I figure that if nothing else I can sell it for $80.00 and keep the goodies.

Just as advice, not to brag or stick it to anyone, but, if you are looking to save, the academic rates are always a bargain. I always get my software from the local college bookstore anymore. In my current area the college has XP Pro for $10. Just need to find a student who wants to earn $5; should not be a challenge. :)

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

I used my personal email and it worked fine. When I got to the point of my employer it did not recognize the name so I had to create my company profile and take a guess at many of the questions. But it took it and now I have mine coming in 6-8 as well. :D

catch23
10-08-2002, 11:32 PM
My previous order was delivered in less than 3 weeks...though they said 6-8.

Yeah they said to allow 6-8 weeks when I ordered XP RC-1 and it only took a little over 2 weeks.

Sorry NK

It didn't take me long to get mine. My wife got hers even faster. Can't remember how long the kid's copies took...LOL.

I posted this several months ago and again when Lawyer Ron was building his CAD workstation. You guys didn't get in on it then?

I think they extended it to get rid of all the copies of non SP1 XP Pro. And maybe to get a little extra business out of us tightwads.

I've been a partner not for a couple of years, the best deal I got was a Free copy of XP. :). M$ gave it to me at the XP system builder roadshow. Sweet. I always jump on these promos when they come up, Great way to get cheap personal copies. Just remember, the EULA for these copies is not transferrable. Also, dont be supprised if M$ call you to survey your company on it's production. I get a call once a year at renewal time to see how many copies of the OS I have sold for the year etc...

If you have everything set-up Carl then just go here and login with the email you used during setup and your password.

The first one I ordered was very easy. Probably a month later after about 50 emails continuing to make the same offer I ordered again and I had to fill out way more stuff. The link PardeGT posted looks right to me. They sent me a confirmation email that had a link in it. Then they sent me a shipping confirmation and another when it shipped.

It's a pretty damn good deal in that it is not an upgrade but the full retail version.Wish I would have known about about when I bought my first copies last October for retail prices.

Mine has it for $25. I got XP (upgrade, unfortunately) and Office XP for $70.

Limit one per student, tho, so I can't hook anyone else up.

Anyone at any University of Wisconsin can get great deals through: http://wiscweb5.wisc.edu/wisc/

Not that that link's very useful to you guys, but you can drool and wish you were in college here!

Paul,
My info is from the Univ. of California at Stanislaus and U.C. of Sacramento. My oldest is in the masters program an Stanislaus and my daughter-in-law is an instructor at Sac.
I asked them both to check.

The junior college bookstore here doesn't even carry software. I do get MSDN academic OS's and software for lab and personal use only. I believe a small part of my tuition goes to pay for the academic licenses.

Ahh, you were right Homer15, I checked again and something else was $10, but XP Pro was $17. It is unbelievable, but keep in mind that half the graduating class in the Computer Science Department probably leaves to work for Microsoft. :)

Hi mairving and All,

Well, I just got mine ! :D I was beginning to wonder if something not-so-nice happened...

Dang, the box was bigger than my last order from NewEgg.com with a mobo! Like it was stated, it came with some goodies, too. Like a bobble head doll, an XP baseball in a clear display case, some bubble gum "chew", baseball cards, and, of course, XP Pro Full Version.

Now all I have to do is build a box with it...

:D

Ordered mine 2nd week of OCT. nd just received it Thursday 12/05. Thanks for the Link, can't pass up a good deal. Actually didn't realize it but I have xphome upgrade version on mine and WinME full version in Kids pc. Didn't realize it but that is illegal accordind to EULA cause I used the WinME disk to validate the install of WinXp on mine and according to EULA that makes my copy of WinME not legal to use anymore. I'm legal and feel better about it now and for 40$.

I'll never be called "the party pooper" but something seems shady. Anyways, I've yet to see a bunch of stuff good about XP or perhaps I've been in a cave. I'll stick to Win98 SE, thank you very much.

It appears the program is ended. XP hasn't been selling as well as Microsoft would like. Perhaps passing out a few copies would entice someone to get the company to buy more.

It appears as it was a promotion to get companies to become Microsoft vendors. I'm sure even at 40$ they weren't loosing anything!

Hey,
Anybody want mine!??!

This thing has an Eddy "Reliable" Trustman Bobble Head Doll (this has never been opened), an MS Windows XP Professional Baseball encased in lucite (also still sealed and unopened), five WinXP Professional baseball cards that includes Joe "Fast" Speedman (these are all still sealed together in plastic), one bag of Big League Chew Bubble Gum in New Sour Apple Flavor! I ordered this for our new business computer but we've decided to sell the business (let me know if you're interested!). I've already sold the computer. The Software was never installed on any computer and it is still sealed inside the kit.

I'm using WinXP home now and don't see the need to change to Pro version. Not only that, but I could use the cash, ya know...it being the holidays and all.

Mine was an interesting story as I ordered the XP Pro in October and I got a confirmation screen giving my total and everything. I had almost given up on it because it never arrived and I hadn't been charged. Well, a couple weeks ago it did arrive but for right now it is a freebie as it still has not shown up as being deducted from my bank account. :)
