Why not do a format and clean install? It might be the best thing to do especially with all of the drivers on ME. This version of Windows (I thought) was easy to install clean. All of my drivers were on the ME cd.

Here is what I do;
1) Boot from the CD and when prompted, select "Boot with CD-Rom Support".
2) The computer will be at the A:\ prompt, type C: <enter> to get to the C:\ prompt
3) type in: cd windows <enter> to get to the windows directory.
4) I usually delete the WIN.COM file by typing: del win.com <enter>. If you want to rename it as Reboot suggested, type in: rename win.com win.bak <enter>
5) Type: d:\setup <enter> to start the WinME setup.

I didn't do a win.com thing. I did a "clean install" using my w98 Startup Disk w/CD Rom Support. On another occasion I just installed over w98 without any problems.

Full version is called that for a reason. It can clean install or do an upgrade. Just have windows running, and pop the cd in. It'll ask if you want to update. You do that, and you're fine.

If you have Win 98SE then you can install the full version of ME on your computer from the upgrade disk but you must have a copy of the Windows 98SE CD to verify that you are allowed to install ME from the upgrade disk.It will ask you to insert this disk during the installation process of ME.
I understand that the upgrade edition of ME does in fact have the full version of ME on it but will not install it on your computer if you do not have the Windows 98 SE CD to verify it. I loaded my upgrade edition of ME this way and it has worked just fine. Not sure if I really like it or not yet though.
Patricia, I had that trouble at first when I installed ME because I had Nortons Anti Virus and it wouldn't close down properly until I took Nortons off. In fact I hav had this trouble before with Nortons Anti Viruis even with Win98, wouldn't close down, kept freezing etc. Its worth a try if you have Nortons to just take it off and see what happens.
I run PCcillin and have had no problems with that.

Also you may get problems with Nortons System check, and Crash Guard. I would play it safe and uninstall these and any other programme that may be running in the background.
