DUN problem--modem wont activate

working on a desktop comput for a change..IBM aptiva with P!! 233/64 ram....modem will not activate in dial up networking but works fine in aol??? Modem diagnostics show all OK... DUN is properly installed..the comput has a NIC..hv never fooled with one of these before--cld this be the problem?? Suggestions??? thanx. Using a 56K rockwell based external modem (V90)..modem only works on COM 1..gives "open com port" on coms 2-5 inclusive...ive tried playing with irqs to no luck...

AOL is taking this modem for itself. If you have the AOL Tray icon in the taskbar you should remove it from STARTUP.
START SETTINGS TASKBAR START MENU PROGRAMS REMOVE----DOUBLE CLICK STARTUP, GET RID OF TRAY ICON

Get rid of Aohell and you should be fine.

Unit really flies now!!..suprised to see such fast garphics!! WinMag.com Wintune benchamrks (video) are 135% over spec for a PII unit..
