Reboot blues

I have a full install of ME on my system. It shuts down fine every time.
But whenever I reboot, like after a program installation, while the system
is shutting down it stops at a blue screen that says "Windows protection
error, restart your system", etc. The message at the bottom says "Error
00:0028:C1695524".
There are no references to any files or fatal exceptions or anything like
that. When this happens, the system is locked up and I have to hit the
reset switch to complete the reboot process.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try ctrl-alt-delete before you try to restart and shutdown one progran at a time and then reboot. Maybe something you have running in the background is not installed correctly and won't accept the reboot command.

I've tried all that already. No luck though. But thank you for the reply.
