can find other pc's

i've buikt a small home network, all give ip adress, no doubles.
one of the pc's is using a realtek 8139 nic. and it can not find the othe pc's. i've checked the cakbel, workgroup and even used search -> computer. with this latter sometimes he finds something but the connection is slow and short lived.

what could this be and what could be a sollution?
i've been grinding my teeth on this for 2 days now please help

Try the nic card in another slot on the computer. But I think I would try another nic card alltogether. You could also try a different driver for your existing nic card.

Is the link light lit on the realtek nic? If not you either have a bad nic or a bad cable. Also make sure all settings in Network Neighborhood are correct, ie, protocols, bindings, sharing, etc.

Also, are you sure the Realtek nic is not from Kingston? The old Kingston nics will be recognized as a Realtek by Windows but you must install Kingston's driver for it to work properly.

there was an typo in the subnet mask
