I am using Network Probe to try and monitor traffic on my network. The software says I need to use a mirrored port to monitor remote traffic. How do I do this and is it possible using Net Gear FS524 10/100 switch.

Thanks in advance

the fs524 switch is an un-managed switch and does not support port mirroring. you would need a managed switch like the fsm 726s switch from net gear.

if you really want to monitor that port on the switch, take a small
ethernet hub (not a switch) and place it between that switch port and the device that is hooked to that port on the switch. Then plug your network probe into one of the other ports on the hub. it will see the traffic on that switch port. Kinda messy, but it works.

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to measure network bandwidth on a small network. I have just installed a new backbone(100mb/s) which is using a switch for signal regeneration and two switches for disribution. I want to measure the bandwidth and look for bottlenecks and data loss due to emi and replace existing problem cables with stp. I cannot find any software which tells me anything of use. Any ideas would be great.
