Recently I converted from dial up (56 k ) modem to cable internet access. Upon converting to the cable service, my Xerox work center 250 has stopped printing. The incoming fax feature however does work. The cable hook up is provided by Charter Communications. Charter claims that their installer did nothing to the system other than install a a cable modem.
When trying to print to the work center, an error appears which say's "user intervention required", use printer offline.

A friend of mine suggested checking the IRQ settings however I am not sure how to do this.

System configuration
HP Pentium 2, Windows 98
Xerox Work center 250 ( Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You,

John Baxter

Hi John,
Welcome to PC Mechanic!!
In Win98, go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Device Manager and double click My Computer at the top of Device Manager screen.
That will show how the IRQs' are being used and what is assigned.

Carl,

Thanks for the advice. I just got off the phone with Charter who was able to finally diagnos the problem and correct it.

Thanks again,

John

Hi John

Another Welcome! Did you find anything with Kubie's directions to the IRQ settings?

Here's a troubleshooter for your Centre 250 from Xerox:
http://www.xerox.com/go/xrx/template/015.jsp?view=ProdFAQInfo&Xcntry=USA&Xlang=en_US&prodID=WC250&page=3&FAQBrowse=TXT_T015_FAQBrowse_General&faqID=250+Printing+Problems

Looks like Xerox no longer supports that machine much. They took the manuals off their website.

One basic thing to look in on is the Printers folder in Win98. From Start/Settings/Printers . . . select your Work Centre 250 with a right-click, then click on Properties. See if the setup looks OK or not. You can also double-left-click on the printer to see if it's just offline in the driver. Try a test print from there: if still getting an error, try the DOS print in the link above to check the printer-cable connections.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[ Ooops - I was dallying at the Xerox site (have some interesting equipment over there) - when you entered your last post. Glad you got it fixed]
