Hi Guys

Stupid question time, what would cause a PC to consistantly display the "F1 to continue" message on startup, yet when pressing F1 everything continues as normal.

Check for viruses for one.

It could be a virus asking you for you to start it up...because I have never had that error.

Bios not being set up properly can also cause this or system error.
At what point does the message appear and what is your system?
Make sure bios is set up and change the setting for errors from all to all but keyboard.

In addition, is it the only message you get, or other messages are displayed too?

What mobo do you have?

Have you added any new hardware recently?

As Alfie says, check your BIOS and make sure that all IDE devices are detected properly.

Try setting the BIOS to the default configuration or setup defaults.
See if that helps.

It could also be a sign of a failing mobo battery. Buy and try a new one.

I had a similar problem, I hadn't yet installed the floppy and the bios considered this an error of sorts.

Go into bios and disable "stop on all errors" or something like that.

Its an old ABIT TX5 M/B with AMD 300Mhz K6-2, soft menu no jumpers. I built the PC years ago then recently sold it to a friend. Everything appears normal apart from this slight problem. I will check for viruses and recheck all is seated correctly etc. I must admit Mike the battery was my first thought, i have a spare so will take it along. My friend is away til thursday so i will let you know. Thanks for the replies
