I installed a new HD and win2k p. I then slaved my old HD which still has win 98se on it so I could access my data.

I didn't think I could run any programs on my old HD but there are a few I tried and can run which I did briefly just out of curiosity.

About a week later my comp started running very slow and I could hear the HD writing and humming almost non stop for quite a while. Eventually the letters on my screen became non letters...just jumbled marks....then froze up. I re-booted and then the computer would never get past the loading windows....just re-start. Over and Over.

I eventually gave up looking for driver conflicts and reformatted my drive and reloaded win2k

Did I screw it up by running some of the programs on my old drive? Or does it sound like maybe a driver conflict? I know I need to update some of my drivers.

yeah some of the programs will work that way, but it will eventually mess up the other install. If it is working ok after the format/reinstall then that is what caused the problem you had.

thought it must be the problem. I have had it happen twice several days after accessing my old hard drive and running one of the old programs.

Screwed it up twice....formatted twice. :o)

thanks, J
