just put together a new system. using a asus a7n266-c board.
it starts up buts shuts down after about a minute. any ideas?

What are your full specs? More importantly, what HSF are you using? It sounds like a heat issue.

xp1700 with hs that came with it.

Did you use the thermal pad that came on the HSF? Check to make sure that the heatsink is making proper contact with the CPU core.

Hi wolfie,
Did you use thermal compound or the thermal pad that was already the heatsink?
If you used the thermal pad, did you remove the plastic cover before you mounted the heatsink?
What brand and wattage is the power supply?
Everything connected properly and securely?

i found this out with my h2o block not making contact, system shutdown exactly 3 seconds after powering on. mystifying, sort of, how such a small thing can be a big problem.

So Wolfie, if you don't mind, what's your current CPU temperature reading from the BIOS after hours of computing? What's the brand/model of your XP 1700+ heatsink/fan?
