The good folks here at PCMECH talked me into being a good techie and I went out and bought a new copy of WIN XP HOME to replace a less than legal version of XP PRO.
I had a little problem on the installation of the new OS>

I could not format the C: drive that the Pro version was on. I could not get it to boot with XP HOME boot disks.

So I booted up with PRO floppies and formatted and then shut down and boot up thru my new HOME CD.

There has to be an easier way. I am installing as I type and it looks like this way will work but.......

This way did work. Does anybody know an easier way of doing this?

It wouldn't boot with the XP Home CD?

No I thought it would too. I changed the BIOS to CDROM as first boot device and it just booted up normally! It is an OEM version of WIN XP home. it booted with Home CD after I formatted the C: Drive using the floppies
I manged to install it okay but there has got to be an easier way to do this.

Did you watch the screen for something like "press any key to boot from cd"? If you miss that, it will proceed to boot to the hard drive.

YUP!! Got that after the format. Before the format it just booted up as if the cd was not in the drive. I Even tried putting it in the CDRW with no luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Are you saying that you changed your BIOS settings to have the 1st boot device as the CDROM and then disabled all the other options so that the CDROM was the only option?
