Hi all! I got a problem with my internet connection sharing. My computer is on the same network with my colleague, i have the ISDN line internet connection, and he don't have any internet connection. How do we can share the internet connection? Both of us using Windows 98SE. Can any friends provide some information or guide like where to start etc.? Your reply are deeply appreciated! Thanks...

Thanks TheOldMan! Now my question is where do i have to install the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) software , to the computer that have direct internet connection (I'm using ISDN modem), or to the client computer? And do i have to install any Proxy software if i'm using ICS? I'm deeply confuse by the Proxy software, actually what Proxy software doing? Pls guide me, many thanks!

No problem.

You're right. The ICS software goes on the machine connected to the ISDN modem. The client computer basically just gets set to obtain an IP address automatically.

No proxy software is needed. ICS will be doing what you need to share the internet connection. ICS is doing "routing". It takes your network traffic to and from the internet and routes it through the connections needed to get to where itneeds to. That's a bit of an over-simplification but that is the bottom-line.

A proxy acts as a middle-man for you. When you want to access a web page, your computer sends the request for the page to the proxy server. The proxy server gets the page and sends it to your system. A proxy can also be used to share an internet connection but it is most commonly used to provide protection to computers inside a LAN and to restrict internet access. A software proxy imposes a little more of an overhead on the system hosting it than ICS does.

Hope that helps.

Here is Microsoft's trouble shooter for internet connection sharing. It's been helpful to me.
