winmx ?

I was checking my firewall log and noticed a "major" alert saying that windows winsock binary change was done by winmx. Any insight into this? Should I be concerned? I do use winmx but not very often.

if you can still connect to the internet and use WinMX you probably shouldn't worry about it.

I installed BearShare once (crappy program, I learned), and it totally disfigured all my Winsock's to where I couldn't do anything that had to do with going online. Too bad I didn't know how to fix the problem at the time without reformatting, lol.

All you need to do (on Win98/ME) is do a little file extracting and you can fix the Winsocks. This is only necessary if something got screwed up though. Refer to Microsoft's site for more info on extracting the winsock files.

XP and 2000 will have no problems with Winsock's, or at least they shouldn'.

Winsock is just the control that allows TCP/IP connections.
