View Full Version : Is Juno a good ISP?

I'm thinking of dumping my longtime ISP and signing up for the Juno $8.95 / month plan to save a few bucks (and also get a slightly faster dial-up connection.) Does anyone know how good - or bad - Juno is to deal with? If their service proves unsatisfactory is it easy to terminate or do they keep on billing you long after you want to quit? Are there an excessive number of ads even with the paid service? Do they insert their own ad in every e-mail, as they do with the free version? Would I have to use a Juno branded browser or can I continue to use my own customized IE 5.01?

I have one of their free accounts just as a back up and checking out modems..it sucks. I have customers who use the pay version and it also sucks. Slow connects, and you can only check your e-mail with the browser. You cannot use Outlook Express or any other e-mail client, at leasst thats the way it was the last time I hit their help pages. If you want a better ISP I suggest you keep checking for a local provider if possible.

That's what I was afraid of, that I would be locked into their e-mail program only. Thanks for the info, KA.

If you can deal with ad banners, Netzero is a good free ISP. Their connections are fast and you can use your browser and email client of choice. You just have to deal with the "Zeroport" on your screen.

I dumped my longtime local ISP a few months ago because they got bought out and their service went down the terlet. I am now using Surfree - it's $14.95 a month and seems to be decent.

Yeah, try Netzero. In my location, I connect with an average 51,666 bps. And I checked their bandwidth thru MSN Speed Tester...the result is impressive with an average of 38 to 48+ kbps line speed. Not bad for a freebie.

These ad banner free ISPs are a lot less annoying if you have at least a 17" monitor. I have a 19" monitor and don't even see the things.

I actually like Juno. The thing I like about it is that I'm able to use Outlook Express for Yahoo e-mail in both receive and send. Most freebies just let me receive Yahoo with Outlook Express and block the Yahoo SMTP.

Each time I log on to Juno, it is necessary for me to open Outlook Express and reafirm that I want it to be my default e-mail program. But other than that, it works the same as the others.

I use Juno, Address.com, and Alta Vista to log on. I don't have any particular problems with any of them. If I do, I just move on to the next one! I haven't paid a dime for two years now.

I must thank Juno for sending their CD'S thru the mail, like the AOL CD'S, I now have enough coasters to throw a good party with out the glass rings on my tables.

I use "aaais.net" out of Kentucky I believe? and it is $12.95 a month unlimited. They have a special now for new customers, think it is $11.95, but you have to pay for a year in advance.

Not that this makes any difference, but aaais is a christian ran internet service provider. I hooked up with them 3 months ago when I finally got tired of aol (what took me so long?)

the first day I had a minor problem, sent their tech department an e-mail, 10 minutes later my phone rang and their tech people were on the phone to walk me through. Tell me another isp that does that!!!!!!!

I have not had a single connection problem, hooking up 99.5% of the time on the first dial up. If there is any problem at all it would be the disconnect because of inactivity, but they even recommended a free timer killer to use.

check them out at:

I'm now using Address.com, a freebie, as my primary ISP and Juno as a backup. Adress.com has a smaller ad banner and better service. Both support Yahoo e-mail and Hotmail w/ Outlook Express 5.

You don't need customer service with either one. If the traffic is a bit slow, just use the other service!

I got frustrated with how slow it was on my pc and started to remove it. In control pannel removed IE5.5 but then the uninstall stopped! Now I can't connect at all using my pc am on laptop now! lolol Going to get the freebie numbers to install on my pc... but it is driving me crazy having msn
dominating my pc! When I called support tech they said i can't uninstall msn orange circle w/the pointing finger or IE5. I said but its my computer and I pay for your service and I want to uninstall all your software. I want a lean fast browser! lolol Help! I have lost my mind!

I started using Free Juno recently and I can't understand it at all. I get some really fast file downloads with it at about 5.6 to 5.7k per second but Web pages load very slow. Feels like a 19K modem and not a 56K modem. Maybe my settings are off. I'm just so frustrated with how slow I get Web sites that I'm seriously looking into DSL. I waste so much of my time just waiting for Web sites to download. I even tried installing and using the Lynx browser last night for better speed but I'm not really used to it and it seems very awkward.

nightsky: try this to remove the MSN branding from your IE.

Harry Some web sites are just slow at given times. It has nothing to do with the ISP. A lot of times, we blame the ISP for a lot of things that are not in their control.
