Which OS 4 me ????

Hey people,
Okay im starting to explorer the possibility of may be running a none microsoft OS on my system. Having always used Micrsoft products i feel that im clueless when it comes to anything else. I have been looking at red hat linux 8.0 and that seems like a fairly user friendly first linus OS, but i aint got a clue hoe to go about setting up my disk space for two OS's?? Anyone knpw which os is the best etc.. and any general knowladge who be much appreciated!

Check out www.linuxnewbie.org for some good tips and tutorials on using linux. Redhat 8 is and excellent choice. Other than redhat, you could look at Mandrake 9.1. Linux can automatically allocate free space on your existing windows partition when it installs. If you have unpartitioned hard drive space, then use that to install the new OS.

Redhat and Mandrake are both good distros to start with. If you're the type of person that can learn well from books, I think the Redhat distro seems to have more authors, favor it. I do recommend looking over books and getting one that you personally feel 'reads well' . If you do, however, make sure it is based on a recent version of the distribution. There are a lot of older books out there, and although they provide a good foundation, they lack info on all the newer features.
