My vote goes to Cricket who lives in Hawaii.

What I'd give to change from rainy Scotland to sun drenched Hawaii!!!

cape cod, mass.

it's pretty cool, except for when my already crowded town of 6,000 turns into 20,000 people in the summer. automatic +45minutes to anywhere you want to go.

Erm, Nebraska, Wisconsin......by cool I don't mean cold places....sounds too much like where I live.

I mean places which are better than your average place!:)

I seen a place in the U.S. who's countryside reminded me so much of Scotland.
Close Encounters...they visit a place called "Devils Tower". The countryside looks so much like Scotland. Is that Montana? Wisconsin?

I live in Bakersfield , California
We have Buck Owens, Sand, Palm Trees, Dense Fog, Heat, and Palm Trees. But we are less than two hours from the beach, two hours from major ski areas, and 4 hours from Las Vegas. And this is a town in California where it is still cheap to live and wages are pretty good (Power Plant Operator $66,000 base with an average of $82,000 per year including overtime)

Stop it man!

You live in California and have served in the USN. Thats as cool as it gets! Only thing cooler is proudly serving on the USS Nimitz class carrier!

I used to live in Barffalo. I mean Buffalo New Yuck. York, I mean York. That place is plenty cold I mean cool. :)

Actually, I did like it there. Lots of neat things to do like ski, fish, hunt and lots of room to roam around. Many people don't realize that western New York is very much a country setting.

The only reason I left was for a job offer at a large company in Ohio. That was fine until they shut down. Now I'm in Ohio with no job. :(

Oh well, that's the breaks!

Fellers, it's gotta be Texas. There's only 2 kinds of folks - those from Texas and those who wished they were. As a well traveled man, I'm serious and impartial when saying Texas has the prettiest women, coldest beer and best bar-b-que, along with Dubya Bush and wife Laura. Beat that, cheeseheads. Sides that, it takes 2 days just to drive across Texas. Oh, and our ladies used to act as such until the Yanks come calling in the '70's. Now they think they're liberated or something...

Naw, we're talking cool as in "cool", not climate wise. Where else but Texas can you drive down the road with tall pine trees along side the road, bluebonnet flowers spurting out in the median, bubba in his slow pick up truck in the right-hand lane hauling hay, then stop at a roadside diner for pancakes the size of hubcaps with homemade syrup, served by a fair maiden, then scoot into a pc shop where they don't talk some techni-eyed lingo you never heard before? I swear, you can do all the above and be catfishing by noon, then assemble the new pc after a dinner of chicken fried steak and beer brewed in Texas. There's cool, then there's "cool". No competition in my book.

I too orginally come from the monument to the rust belt known as Buffalo New York.

I packed up my toys and moved the Raleigh, NC (the home of some of the best college basketball in the USA) and love it. 2 hours from the shore, 2 hours from the mountains and I can golf almost all year round. Not a bad place to be.

Well... in Saskatchewan, when the temps drop way down and the wind comes up... hitting -70'C and lower makes it pretty cool.

Minnesota. Got over 14,000 lakes, parks everywhere, so you can engage in pretty much any recreational activity. Plus, blizzards and cold weather keep the rifraff out.

I do have to agree with Sarge, though: Texas women are very attractive. I've been there once. Aside from that, though, I wouldn't want to live in Texas. It is sad what they consider to be a "park" down there.

Must have been a Ford, hey?

I gotta go with Wisconsin for the better beer, though. There's a brewery within an hour of anywhere. Miller, Pabst, Leinenkugel, Sprecher (best beer that can be had!), Rolling Rock, Moosejaw...just to name a few. There are a lot of pubs in my area that brew their own, too. Brewmasters is pretty good, and there an Irish pub down the street. IF your into wine, just take a jog up to Door County for some of the best wine and food in the state!

The hunting and fishing is great here. The national forests are awesome! If you really want to know how nice WI, ask anyone from Illinois. It seems that half the state lives here on the weekends. ;)

Oh, and a plug for my hometown...we make the best farm equipment there is. Case! Just go up to Milwaukee, and it the home of Harley Davidson.

Whoa... what was that??? I avoid WI like the plague!!! :) Wasn't Wisconsin compared to Purgatory in "Dogma"?

I've been in Chicago my whole life... It's cool, but I've been to better places... Miami is amazing... Tampa is nice... Been to Dallas, spent 3 months there... women were amazing, but their husbands weren't too friendly. :)

I keep telling myself that when I grow up I'll move somewhere warm... Now I'm 32 and still saying it...

No place compares to good old Georgia in my opinion. I've lived here for about 25 years and wouldn't live anywhere else for long. I've lived in Louisiana, Illinois, Texas, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Okinawa, and Florida and have never been anywhere that gripped my heart the way Georgia does.
The University of Georgia Bulldogs, Peaches, Pecans, Deer, Fishing, 4-wheeling, Six Flags over GA, Atlanta, Plantations, Savannah (St. Patrick's Day here is a BLAST!), it just doesn't get any better.

My family comes from Kansas City, which is not cool. They all moved to Palm Beach and left me here. I have visited my mother and brothers, and can tell you that Palm Beach is cool. Maybe not as cool as where Cricket lives. Have friends that live in Savannah, and it is pretty cool too. BTW, Wyoming and Scotland are not really much alike. Wyoming is way dryer. A big part of it is flat as a pancake.

I would say that Great Britian is pretty cool too. Not as cool as Hawaii, but a lot cooler than KC.

How about Denver, Colorado? 300 sunny days a year - the Rockies in your backyard. No humidity! Snow in Winter on some days and 2 days later you run around in shorts. :D You have all 4 seasons, too.

Yep, you definitely got me there Kubie! There's no disputing that GA is quite humid, but if you are brought up here, you really don't notice it as much as someone who just moved here from a low humidity climate.

My in-laws are from Denver (and I agree Christoph, it is VERY beautiful!) and they almost died after getting off the the plane here. They said the humidity "smacked" them in the face as soon as they stepped out of the plane.

Wasn't knockin' Georgia because I've been through there many times various times of the year.
Beautiful country.

For year-round great weather, its hard to beat San Diego. Lotsa things to do and places to see.

I've got to agree with that one. I couldn't live there, though. Everything is so expensive. Last time I was there, I didn't notice that the gas gades are different, and put in 83 octane. Took me a couple more fill-ups to understand why my car was running like crap. But, all are small prices to pay for having the Rockies in the back yard. So far, I've skiied Steamboat, Vail, and Copperhead. Sure beats those garbage dump ski hills here in WI.

you most definitely can buy a house for that, unfortunately your monthly tax bill is equal to your mortgage payment, the politicians do nothing but raise the tax rate to pay for the only people who stay which are the government employees.

Upstate NY does have some very nice situations: 4 seperate and distinct seasons, very pretty landscape, weather than can be exciting (to say the least), the people are nice and the food is good, but couple that with a long cold, gray winter (have had winters go by with only 2 days of sun) and the declining population and it just about evens out to a neutral rating.

83 octane gas? Are you sure you were in Colorado? Everything here is 85 and higher.

We got lots of snow in the mountains already. Most ski areas are open early for the season already. You should also try Winter Park/Mary Jane. It's an awesome ski resort. ;)

And you're right - life is not cheap here. We bought a house 3.5 years ago and without doing much about it, it is now almost $80K more in worth. That sounds nice but if we would sell and buy another one we would have to spend that money right away  just to get something similar.

But - quality of life is very high! And you can't beat the weather.

If I ever get ahead some money I am going to buy a datcha in Frisco. To my mind the Colorado Rockies are best in the Summer. Hiking, cycling, and 4wheeling are all great out past Ike's tunnel.

Went down my first black and jumped my first bumps on Mary Jane. Great hill.

Talk about quality of life, I once met a PHD level scientist out in the Rockies who was turning wrenches in a garage to keep from moving after his company moved out of town. He decided he would rather eak out a living in Colorado than move back to California for the big bucks.

CH

PS Frisco is a little town just East of Vail and West of Dillon. Not as touristy or as expensive as Vail or Breckenridge with scenery that is just as good.

I grew up in Colorado, but have lived in California, Texas, Virginia, England and now Oklahoma. I was in the Navy for a number of years and traveled over much of the world. I can't honestly say I dislike anywhere. I have enjoyed things all over. While I enjoy crowds I don't really care to live in a crowded place. There's good people just about everywhere I have ever been and I would do it all over again!(most of it anyway)

Your gas was probably 85 octane with ethanol. Of course, the change in atltitude also affects our cars as much as it does us.

Expensive? Just like when I was in the Army and stationed all over the US (New Jersey, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Korea), the prices are higher in the big city. Cuurently, my brother in Greeley is paying $1.65 for 87 octance and I am paying $1.54. Rents there start at $600/month for a one bed apt and in Pueblo they are in the paper starting at $375. Houses in Greeley start at $60k and here they are $35k for a two bedroom "starter."

I live in the country, twelve miles out of town on five acres (don't have to listen to the neighbor's every word when they argue) that we bought for $36,900 with a two beroom house on it. We have high speed fiber for the internet, an hour to great skiing at Monarch ($27 for all day lift ticket, check out http://www.skimonarch.com/), 20 minutes to warm water fishing at Lake Pueblo, 1 hour to cold water fishing in the mountains, 30 minutes to hiking trails, and let's not forget Bishop's Castle a stone castle being built one stone at a time.

I have to admit that every place I have been to has its own beauty. Like Sarge said, nothing can match the sight of bluebonnets along Texas' hiways, but there are also the Smoky Mountains at sunset, catching bluefish running in Cheasapeake Bay, the taste of fresh lobster in Maine, hiking less than a mile from the Army compound in Korea and not being able to buy a soda because the people had not seen a G.I. since 1953, or hiking in the mountains and you haven't seen another soul for two days.

Crowds are ok, but I don't like to live there.
