Yep, the US is a great place for ideas like the PC and the internet to develop and grow, but it also took minds from all around the world to accomplish it.

Oh god, don't talk to me about the English.........I'm on the good side our dear green island..........I'm Scottish!!!
:) :) :D

P.S. A lot of nationalities saved the English during WW2, The Scots, The Welsh, The Irish, The Poles, The Free French, The Norwegians, The Czechs and.......yes a bit later on....the YANKS with their B-17's and P-51's.

The amount of Americans who lost their lives in foreign lands. Never forget your fellow friend and former foe.

God Bless You All.

In Scotland we have traditions that for centuries the English have tried to ridicule.

Scotland has a population of 5 million people yet we take up the most beautiful part of the island of the United Kingdom. We have four cities Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee and have within a few miles drive the most spectacular scenery to be seen anywhere in the UK.

We have hills, mountains, valleys, islands and wealth our lowly, southerly English neighbours can only dream of.
England is flat and is full of uninteresting people.

Scotland reminds me of Canada. It has 1/10th the population of it's southerly neighbour and envious eyes are always cast north.:)

Scotland as a very proud small nation gave the world some of it's greatest people: Alexander Graham Bell (Telephone), John Logie Baird (TV), Alexander Fleming (Penicillan), Andrew Carnegie (Economics), James Watt (The Steam Engine), James Dunlop (The Pnuematic Tire), Many Scots (Declaration of U.S. Independance)

We are a small nation subjgated by a larger one so have to shout louder to be heard!

God Bless America and Freedom!

Oh, our noble leader Mr Tony Blair (Scottish name) is Scottish and proud but chooses to ignore it to appease our friends in...England)

Hey guys if you are a Mac (your Scots!) and if you are a Mc (your Scots or Irish!).

Nuke, you as a Mexican have had to suffer the same as we Scots have (we have this imppression of Mexicans as Sumbrero wearing-Techila drinking-cigar smoking "gringo" (whatetever that means stereotyping). You know what I mean eh gringo?:)

God bless you one an all! (You are forgiven for Seseme Street!):)

KUBIE:

If you EVER meet a Scotsman NEVER call him a "Scotch" man. Scotch is the name of various foods and drinks but NEVER a person. If you ever want to insult a Scottish person and get a kick in the teeth then call him a "Scotch" man to his face. A sore face will surely follow.:)

We are lovely people you know!:)

Er, UFO, gringo is a mexican expresion for northamerican people. It's a rather unpleasant expresion, hence I never use it.

UFOResearcher,
And you never call a Mexican a gringo. You will quickly see who has a sore face.:)
See its easy to make a mistake if you're not familiar with a culture.

I have a friend over here in Scotland. He has dark skin, dark hair and black moustahce. Everyone says "Hey Gringo!".

Very insulting to my friend. He say "no comprendo" "what does it mean??". His family is from Eastern Europe.

What is "Gringo"?

Nuclear Krusader

No comprendo = I don't understand

Gringo: when the US invaded Mexico the US soldiers wore green uniforms. When they walked the mexican streets people shouted at them "green go, green go". Hence, gringo.

Oh!

So "Gringo" is a derogatory word towards North Americans. Sorry everyone.

Everyone calls my friend "Gringo" but he does not know what it means.

Apologies to all. We did not know in the UK it was a bad word!

Please. Everyone in North and Central America realise that Colin Stead (aka UFO Researcher) meant NO harm in the use of the word "gringo". In Europe "Gringo" is a term used to describe people of latin descent and no offense was intented.

Nuklear Krusader has been in the past and will hopefully be a friend in the future.

NK. If I offended you and your proud Mexican upbringing then I apologise. God Bless Mexico my friend!

I'm sorry NK.

No hard feelings UFO. I never felt offended by your statements in any way.

You have my friendship as always.

God bless Scottland, America, Mexico and all good people under the sun no matter what their countries are!

Now, there's my 13 yr old daughter who is a professional Irish Step dancer aspiring to place in an Aractus (spelling?) dance competition so she'll be invited to go to Ireland and compete for the World title which her dance instructor did twice.

Then there's my 16 yr old son who is a professional bagpiper and makes mucho, beaucoup, a whole lotta money performing. They both have the traditional Celtic garb costing hundreds of dollars....

Hey, NK, I consider myself, kind of, a student of history, but I never knew that. Very interesting. I remember my mother telling me the story of when she was traveling in Europe. She was talking to some locals (I think in France) and they were discussing politics and wars (this was only about a decade after WWII). Somehow she said that the US had never started any wars but had always responded to aggression. The person she was talking to said, "what about the Mexican War?" After thinking about it she told him that he was right.

The 1846 war? Yeah, I remember that one. It was because of the independence of Texas.

Heh when I lived in Ecuador my name became gringo whenever someone didn't know me. In fact we referred to all of us Americans in Ecuador as the "gringos." I knew where it came from but we just used it as a simple way to discern the ex-pats. In fact it extended beyond Americans to include any British or Australians living there as well.
