This one has me stumped. Built an AMD 650 Athlon for a friend of mine. Set up all the software including his MSN account. Put it through it's paces for a couple of days just to make sure it worked properly. It did. Took it to his house hooked it up but couldn't log onto his MSN account or when I did manage to log on it only downloaded half the home page and then disconnected shortly thereafter. Took the machine back home, reinstalled MSN 5.1 and proceeded to log on to his account without a hitch and have done so throughout the day. The only thing I can think of that's causing this problem is the phone line going from the wall outlet to his computer is bad or he has problems with his phone line.

The modem connection at his place is 115200 bps and at my place is 26400 bps. The model for the Zoom modem is 2925L. The ATI numbers are as follows:

ATI 1 = E851
ATI 2 = OK
ATI 3 = Zoom V.90 Data+Fax Modem Version 5.68 - AZ207
ATI 4 = 72
ATI 5 = 5.68 - AZ207,0,19,141B,9300,0458
ATI 6 = OK
ATI 7 = OK
AT+FCLASS=? 0,1,8,80

Hope this will be of additional assistance in solving my problem. Thanks a lot folks. You're appreciated.

Sounds to me like you hit the nail on the head. Call the phone company and tell them you are having problems sending faxes at 14.4 baud. Legally they must come and check things out, and hopefully fix the line.

Before you do that, take the computer with the new MSN version back to your friend's house and see if it works. (I didn't noticed you mentioned doing that)

More info please -

1. What brand and model is the modem? What is the driver/firmware version?
2. What is the indicated connect speed at each location?
3. What is sharing the phone line at his house with the modem? fax machine - answering machine - phones - caller ID boxes - burglar alarm - water meter readers - ?
4. To expand on Dok's observation - is there any *audible* noise on the line? Pick up a phone and dial "1" and listen......
