A friend of mine works for a company were they have ISDN access to the Internet. Their IT person says DSL is less secure than ISDN because "you're always online with DSL and hackers can more easily hack into your server". Is this true? Is DSL less secure than ISDN? Aren't you always online with ISDN too?

They are the same, both use phone lines and have dedicated connection. There will always be security issues when you are constantly online, like cable modem. That's where a firewall comes in :)

ISDN is not designed to be "always on" - it's just a digital phone line that you generally use the DUN or a dial on demand router with. Your friend is correct, but they still need a firewall of some sort. ISDN routers generally do provide this kind of protection either standard or as an option.
