How can I change what appears in the "new" menu. I would like to remove some items to speed up access time.
(right click on desktop, hover over "new", items appear: folder, shortcut, etc.)

Adding a File Type to the 'New' Menu
To add a file type to the New menu, which can be found on the context menu, when you - for example - right click on the Desktop, follow these steps:
1. In the program that creates the file type you wish to add, create a blank document with any preferences you wish to use. Save it immediately
2. Copy this file to \Windows\ShellNew -- it is a hidden folder. (see Show all files to see how to show hidden files/folders in explorer)
3. Start the Registry Editor
4. Open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and find the extension for the file type you wish to add
5. Select the file type you wish to add and right-click, choose New > Key from the context menu
6. Call the new key ShellNew
7. Select the new key, right-click, choose New > String Value from the context menu
8. Call it FileName
9. Double-click on the string, and modify it to be the filename of the blank template file you created, including the extension
10. Exit the registry editor and restart Windows

Okay, I got home and took a really good look at the directions. Now, if I waned to REMOVE the ShellNew key, would that get rid of the item in the new menu? That's what I really want to do.
