Hi,

I've got a question about Outlook Express 6 running on Windows 98 with Norton Systemworks 2002 Pro virus protection. If in Outlook Express 6 the security setting: "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" is selected will Norton still protect what that setting would normally cover? Norton scans every incoming and outgoing E-mail. The higher security setting in Outlook Express setting is stopping the ability to read a lot of the attachments. If Norton doesn't cover it is it really important to have higher security setting on Outlook Express?

Thank you

Todd,

My take on this is as follows:

The security settings on Outlook and NAV are like comparing apples to oranges. Outlook express will look for a static list of extensions to block where as NAV dynamically looks for not only potentially harmful extensions but also virus definitions. I have the security level set to low on my e-mail programs and let NAV do its job of search and destroy… The key will be to enable NAV for real time protection and to make sure your live updates are performed routinely. I have used NAV Corp edition for about a two years now with no problems. In that two years my NAV program has stopped around 400 viruses, 99.9% coming from e-mails. Hope this helps.
