When I bookmark a site and add it to my main links on my tool bar, they sometimes come with their own cool icons beside their names. i.e. pcmechanic has one. but after a few restarts, internet explorer replaces it with the boring "e" logo. How do i retrieve the original logo, or turn off this default logo destroyer?

Well, there is another way. You could save them to your hard drive like I do. Now please note, all sites don't have these little icons, but on the ones that do, you can save them. They are usually named favicon.ico and all you do is go to your address bar, type in the name of the site and follow it with /favicon.ico. For instance, here at PcMech, just go www.pcmech.com/favicon.ico and it will take you to the icon (if the site has one.) PcMech's just shows up as a black box when you go to it but if you right click and save it as an icon file to your hard drive, it will be in there. Then just go to your Favorites menu, and instead of left clicking on the site link, right click and go to Properties. There should be something in there called Change Icon. Just insert where the icon is saved on your drive and hit Apply and it should be a permanent icon on your system. Hope I didn't forget anything. :)

There's a free program called FavOrg that will hunt down all the favicons from your favorites folder and store them in it's own folder. Occasionally if you get one that won't show you might have to resize it to a size similiar to the ones that do work on your system. It works pretty well.

Cool! I hadn't ever heard of that program. Guess maybe I do it the old fashioned way! :D Thanks Tuf.

I don't know where I found it. But I have seen it several places since. CNET I think has it available. It pretty much does it on it's own.
