My win ME is givijng me heck with my new Olympus C-50 digital camera. I try to get them to talk to each other and it ain't workin

I get the darned thing to show me a "large storage device" but it won't give me a drive letter and it doesn't recognize the camera

Anybody had similar problems?

The Camedia c-50 is totally awesome by the way

Have you installed the camera's drivers ? With my Kyocera camera I had to do this before connecting the camera. After installing the drivers my camera was detected fine and I got the drive letter for it.

What kind of Kyocera do you have?

Kyocera Finecam S4

4 mega pixels
3x optical zoom
multimedia card

Makes really nice pictures, I'm glad I switched over from my 10 year old camera to the digital one :)

the instruction book says the drivers are automatically installed when the computer recognizes the camera but I don't think it's happening that way

it says tweak ui can interfere so turned it off, still not talking to each other. am getting the storage device show on bottom right of task bar but no drive letter added in control panel as it says it's supposed to do

am still clueless but surely if it's getting part of it the rest will show up I just don't know how to get it to do so

ah but the camera is very nice was easy to get started

now if I can just get my pictures out....

Was there a disk that came w/ camera? If so, you will need to install the drivers/software on it. Same thing happened w/ my fuji, I installed the software, and it works like a charm.

It keeps telling me that I don't need to install the drivers. Loaded the thing up in my win 98 laptop and it went right in no problem but Me is somehow blocking it all.

Supposedly ME has the drivers already but from what I can tell it won't load anything but its standard "use all" vxd's and they won't work so I try to change drivers, it won't find them even though I can see them in the windows\system folder

turned off Tweak UI which they say interferes, checked all drives it should be working. My laptop is not very fancy and it sucked it all in and I got pictures and everything but I need it to work with my desktop. checked troubleshooting at Olympus no info on why other than Tweak that the camera won't load

and now when I try to install new hardware whole computer freezes.

I hate ME its got to be the problem cause it "thinks" it has the drivers but it won't use them or let me change to the ones its supposed to use.

Can't get drive letter for removeable drive as I am supposed to without the darned thing selecting the right drivers.

Am at a total loss now

decided to try one more time to get the camera and win me to talk to each other... finally figured it out and this info may help someone else who has same problem

ME does not load all drivers needed in one round apparently, I had to make three passes at loading

it first loaded the necessary usb drivers (that it supposedly had already) usbntmap.sys and usbstor.sys but still showed no drive letter or way to select one for the camera just showed storage device in system

next it loaded a couple of dll files fnfilter.dll and srusd.dll then same thing no drive letter added just showed storage device in system and disconnect on task bar

and finally when I tried one more time it requested the me cd and asked for a file from the base 2 cab (sorry didn't write down the name of the file was too elated at having reached a successful conclusion)

then everything showed up at once, drive letter, camera in system under drives and as a storage disc on its own

no clue why it took three passes but it's working so if you buy a new camera and have troubles with older software, try more than once.
