slow sticky ps/2 mouse

Hi, maybe someones had this problem my mouse has all of a sudden became slow/sticky. When I try to use it, it seems to stop and start across the screen. its new so its not dirty its about 3 weeks old. It feels as if when I go to use it the computers decided to do something just before I use the mouse. Its hard to explain, I have speeded it up in control panel I have also reinstalled the driver. can anybody think of anything?

First off, if it runs without a driver installed by you, you are way ahead. Have you changed anything in bios like add usb ports/usb irqs or anything? Is the mouse a usb or ps2? You may want to reduce the speed of the mouse too. What did you use to speed up the mouse? Did you increase the mouse input buffer any? If it is a ball type non optical job, you might check to see if stuff has gotten wrapped around the rollers inside the mouse that the ball moves. They often get stuff wrapped around themselves from the mousepad and are easily cleaned with just a fingernail.

Its a ps/2 mouse I haven't changed anything. Just speeded up the pointer movement in the mouse properties.
Its a strange fault, its as if something is running at the same time as I'm using the mouse, sometimes I use the mouse and its fine.
It feels as if when I move the mouse it stops and starts.
The mouse is new 3 weeks old it use to work fine. The balls clean ive done that its a bit more than use the normal dirty mouse thing.

So the mouse has a ball ? Get rid of it and get an optical mouse instead, I promise you will never want a ball mouse again ;)

You can also take the ball out of the bottom. Take a look where the ball was. And clean off all the gunk left by engine grease if you work outside like I do. or other gunk.

With your finger nails.

Will also save gunk put on my optical mouse schtuff!

Back in the days when I used a Ball mouse, I had a Problem like this. It turned out that my desk had a very small bow in the desktop that as the mouse rolled across it would roll into this extrememly small dip and the pointer would stop moving until I was out of it. OPtical mouse fixed that.

I've cleaned the ball again and changed the mat, theres know different I will have to try a different mouse. I may consider the optical

Hi guys hope you don't think I don't value your ideas because I do - if it hadn't been for PCMECH I’d be stuck now. I have only had my machine approx three weeks and I was wanting not to have to buy much for it just yet. I have already had to go out and buy a 2 USB cables (1 for the modem the other for the printer) I do agree with the optical mouse option - but at present I'm trying to convince my other half we don't need to spend any more money till well into the new year.

Take the ball out and examine the 3 rollers. If there's any dust on them I use tweezers to remove it. 3 weeks seems a short period for that problem, but... Tried a different mouse pad?

Yeah Ive cleaned the rollers a few times now. I have also changed the mouse mat. I have now found another ball from a new none ps/2 mouse and it seems to be doing the trick (dare I say) (fingers crossed)
