One of the problems with all the USB webcams is that they use alot of power and if you have a USB printer, mouse or just about any other USB device plugged in at the same time they will not work. I suggest that you get a powered USB hub and your problems will be solved. You can get them for around 20 bucks at Walmart, Costco, or CompUSA.

To use the CAT5 Connection (Ethernet) from you modem to the computer (and it is a much better performing connection) you will need to install a NIC (Network Interface Card) in the computer and a short CAT5 Cable. The cards themselves run from 10 bucks and up and are fairly easy to install. Just do it with the power off and when you finish the card install plug all the cables in and turn on the computer. Since you are running Windows XP it will finish the installation for you automatically. I suggest that for a NIC that you stick with D-LINK, LinkSys, or SMC network cards as I know these will auto install under XP.
