I'm using Nero 5.5.9, and am skeptical that it is actually burning at the speed I set it at. Is there a way I could monitor the actual burn speed?

Why are you skeptical? Does it take too much time?

Nero usually displays it in the log "starting burn process at 24x" for example.

What burner do you have, what speed is your CD-R(W) certified at, how long does the burn process take, and are source and destination drive connected to the same IDE ?

This will show the true write speed in nero.I found this in a forum but i can't remember where, might of been here, about 3 mounths ago. I use it and it works for me. You could try a google for "nero write speed registry hack" or something. Just remember to back up your registry first. If i remember right, some people had trouble geting it to work and had to reinstall nero first, then it worked.

create a hackspeed.reg file (right click->new document->text file and then rename .txt to .reg) with the following content:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder]
"ShowSingleRecorderSpeed"=dword:00000001

Close file, save change and just double click it.
Real recording speed should work now!
