i have a cable modem (isp=optimum online)
the isp says that for an additional computer in the house to be connected to the internet i need another cable modem.... but can't i just use a cable/dsl router with some cat5 cable and have both my computers running through the one cable modem.....
would this work and could they detect this on their network and disconnect my service

thanx for the help

Hi apothacon, welcome to the PC Mech forums!

Yes, a router is the best solution since it allows you to share your cable connection and provides you with a secure firewall. Check out Linksys, Netgear, SMC, and D-Link. You can get a good one for under $50 now. As far as I know the ISP can't tell if your using a router, and most of the time they don't care unless you're running a server or something that hogs the bandwidth. Hope that helps.
