Hi,

I just bought a new PS/2 keyboard from CompUSA and it does exactly squat ! The old keyboard ( the one I'm using now ) has usb. I also bought an optical mouse (usb) and it works great, no problems. The old mouse was PS/2. The first thing I installed was the mouse, and like i said, no problems. Then I try to install the new keyboard.....Nothing. I'ts like it's not even there. Windows won't detect it, the "Add new hardware" utility in Control Panel won't detect it either. Whatever happened to plug-n-play? What am i doing wrong?

Your bios may have an option to choose the port your keyboard is on. You must have the PC turned completely off to plug in anything to a PS/2 port.

If it doesn't recognize it then either the port on your computer or the keyboard is most likely defective.

Also double check that you connected the keyboard to the keyboard-PS/2, not the mouse-PS/2. It's pretty easy to connect the keyboard wrong (with USB it doesn't matter, but with PS/2 it does. Today's plugs and connections are color coded, green for the mouse and purple for the keyboard).
