cable modem suggestions needed

I am thinking about buying a new cable modem. I am looking for a nice one with lots of bells and whistles. Ethernet.

I am looking for one that has good in options so i can look and the stats of my connection and everything.

brand is not very important to me.

One with router options would be nice.
I know alot of DSL modems have 1 ethernet out but are routers if you connect them to a hub.

Yes, i am going to replace theirs.

hmmm...the issue with that is one of support. Most cable companies do not support modems that they don't provide.

You might want to call the provider and ask them if there are any cable modems (other than theirs) that will work on their system (interoperability can be an issue). If they don't have a list, you will need to know what their aggregation router is and what chip sets it has in it. Once you hav that, you can query modem manufacturers for compatibility.

I am not looking for support from them. trust me, they can't set up email correctly. I am going to buy my own modem so that I can stop renting theirs. I know I could buy the same modem I already have for 100 dollars but I am looking for other options.

you will still want to verify compatibility with their system before you go out and buy a cable modem. Odds are your provider is DOCSIS compliant (ask them to make sure and what version they are using, 1.0 is most common) if they are, Toshiba and linksys both make decent ones

ok, with the exception of verifing compatibility with my provider. I am still looking for the different options different cable modems ofter.

For example, I DSL I know a few modems I can surf into, read the sync rate, Nosie margins and get alot of very useful Trouble shooting info.

I wonder if any cable modems have simlar features and what a person would look for in for those features.

when I pick one I like I will verify compatibility with my provider then.

I have the Linksys Cable modem and I haven't had any trouble with it. It's working great.

I also have the Linksys Wireless Access Point/ Router which is good for wirless and wired networking.
