Ok my dad just purchased a new computer, and he would like to move his existing mails, from Outlook, to the new computer's Outlook software. How would this be possible? I can't email it over, because of the enourmous amount of mail.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

OL2002: How to Back Up, Restore, or Move Outlook Data
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287070

You can use winzip to san several floppies. Might have him delete the mails he really doesn't need. Also Outlook has a compress the file option. Doing this would help..

When trying to export this is what it came up with:

Can you temporarily network the two? Just drag and drop.
How about taking the old HD out, and slaving it in the new machine temporarily?

Ok, all I really need to know is what folder to go into to access the mails. Can anyone tell me?

Thanks.

If it's Win9x, mail is in the c:\program files\Outlook folder(s).
If it's 2k/XP, mail is in the c:\Documents and Settings\username\...somewhere. I don't use Outhouse Express, so I am only guessing here.
Address book is in: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Here are some easy to follow instructions that works great with address book http://www.iopus.com/guides/oe-backup.htm I'm able to use it to back up mail but whenever I restore it on a new computer and try to open inbox I get a msg. that Outlook Express could not open this folder. Possible causes are low disk space and low memory.

Did the inbox work for you. Per my msg. I cain't get the inbox with messages to work (it backs up fine (192k)), but Whenever I copy it back in to another PC it won't open. The address book works fine. Backs up and restore.

I can't tell you that as of now since I haven't tried actually moving it to the other computer, but I know that I found the file (at least):D

I will however let you know by tonight.

Ok it worked. :)

First of all I accesed his directory (VIA the help of that site), then I copied inbox.dbx, and put it on a CD-R. After opening it on the other computer, I simply deleted his current inbox.dbx, and copied in the new. It only seemed to work when I named it "inbox" (maybe I'll find out later why). Also, make sure that OE is closed while doing this operation otherwise it won't allow you to do this.

Hope it works for you ;)

Yes I got the mail working by deleting inbox.dbx and then copying my backup. I can only get the address book to work if the Outlook Express address book is empty.

This works great for backing up address and mail and moving to a new PC (I loaded up WIN98 on my Linux box to test with). I'm still looking for something that I can backup mail and address and merge in a existing OE account.
