Jeeze these things are nothing but trouble I tells ya!

The problem is this. I 'm trying to run a server off of my home pc, but I have a dynamic ip addy. So I went out on the world wide web and signed up for one of those free DNS forwarder. This way everytime I reconnect I use this handy little client to update my ip addy at their server and thus when people type in the ip I want them to have, they will be redirected to my server. Sounds simple.

The problem that I've encountered is whenever I try to update my ip address with this little client, it tells me that I'm not connected to the internet. It tries to connect through my dialup modem instead of noticing that my internet connection goes though my ethernet card (DSL).
Can anyone please help me to fix this problem.

Thanx , You guys always manage to save my ass in someway.

Depends on where this client is taking its settings from...

If it's taking them from IE, you might have IE still set to dial instead of assuming a LAN connection.

I'd suggest using RASPPPOE if you're on pppoe, since it's much more efficient than any proprietary software from your ISP. Plus, it uses DUN bound to the ethernet adapter so for purposes of that client, it may see an active DUN connection and think you're connected.

Thanx XAYD, but what you said went in one ear and out the other. I'm trying to understand though, don't get me wrong.

First of all what is a PPPoE?
I know that my ethernet settings uses this. What is this for?

Secondly what is a RASPPPoE?

Thirdly, where can I get RASPPoE?

It replaces that crappy Winpoet software that DSL providers that use PPPoE give you. If you have a router and a static IP, and don't have to "log on", disregard. You don't have it.

I tried the RASPPPoE but I couldn't get it to work.
And for some funny reason I now have a ISDN connection wizzard icon in with my communications stuff. Anyways, no big deal, but if anyone knows how to get the RASPPPoE to work, plz post a reply.

Thanx

It sounds like you have a bunch of old internet connection settings. Are you on a network?

If not, get everything out of the network properties window, and in the internet settings, on the connections tab, remove them all.

Now install Rasppoe by following the instructions.

I began fooling around with a few settings in the Access Manager and I deleted a setting that used my dialup modem (it was a DUN or something like that) and sure enough it worked.

Thanx anyways all.
