hey guys i just got xmas cash and have been wanting to get a new pc. i saw this site and decided to build it for obvious reasons. this is my list of what im most likely gonna get from newegg. can u give some advice, is it all compatible or change anything. thanx

I just used that case for my last build...love it. That motherboard doesn't support that ram that you have listed. You need ddr pc2100 memory. If that hard drive is only the one with the 2mb cache, I would pay a few extra bucks to get the 8mb cache. You'll also need to pick a video card that will match your needs. Welcome to the forum by the way. Others will offer other help. They know what they're talking about...so if you listen to them you'll end up with a kicken system.

Welcome to PC Mech.

Your parts selection looks okay but you have the wrong type of RAM listed...as DUSTIN stated, you need PC2100 DDR RAM.

Also, which video card are you planning to use?

Are you going to be using the on-board sound?

you also need a HSF, thats an OEM you listed
you need crucial 256mb pc2100 ddr, thats what you should get
try looking into an Asus mobo
LiteOn CDRW are very popular in these forums and you should check them out, very good quality

I would change the sony CD-RW and DVD drives to lite-on. You'll probably save about $10, and lite-on is an excellent company with quality products.

I agree with everyone else.
Get lite-on drives.
Get a retail P4 so that it comes with an HSF.
You have to get DDR PC2100 ram, preferably from Kingston, Crucial, Corsair, or Mushkin.
Make sure that the hard drive has the 8mb cache. It's a lot better.
And you need a video card. Check out an nvidia GeForce 4 Ti card, or if you have the cash and are a gamer, an ATI 9700 card.
That motherboard is most likely extremely stable since it is an Intel board, but you won't be able to do much tweaking or overclocking with it. if you think you will ever want to, try going with Asus as i3OSS suggested.

Hi monkey27,

It all depends on what you are going to be doing with your computer. If you are doing digital editing you'll want a board with firewire support. Intel boards have basic features and do not overclock, but they are very stable and dependable. I'd suggest going with a board with te 845PE chipset as it will allow better upgadeability for processors and supports faster memory (PC2700)
