Hello,

I have an IBM 100/10 ISA Ethernet. I installed it on my motherboard and turn my computer on. Windows 98 had then detected it and installed it.

I observed the three lights on the back of the board were off.

I then tried to connect two computers and I couldn't make it work.

If anyone is familiar with this kind of adapter, please send me an answer. I used a Cat5 cable.

Thanks in advance !

Hi Cristian;
Are you just direct connecting 2 PC's via their NIC cards?? I assume you are cause that is what it sounds like, and from that It sounds like you're not using a cross-over cable. When direct connecting 2 NIC's you need one, and your not even getting a link light so that is the first thing to check is for an rj45 ethernet crossover cable to be in place there.

If there are no lights on the NIC when the computer is on, then the NIC is not working.

I would think the three lights are LINK-activity/10-100/FULL-HALF/ so even if the card is installed properly I wouldn't expect to see any lights untill a proper cable is plugged in there going to proper type network device.

Are you sure that's an Ethernet card - not a Token Ring?

Most nics and especially old ethernet cards, you will not get a light unless there is a proper Cat5 cable plug into it. So for instance if you have a Cat5 cable between 2 PC's without the use of a hub and this cable is straight through, chances you won't get a any kind of signal and therefore no light. But if you have the correct cable connected you should get a light. Second, if this is a Token Ring, unless TCP/IP can bound itself onto the adapter you will not get a light. The only way it can bo bound itself to the adapter and get a light if it sees the network while it is looking at that time. This being the case, this is one of the many things that make it hard to troubleshoot Token Ring cards.

So in short, if all you want to do is connect 2 PC's use a crossover, and configure the IP's for static and the same workgroup and you probably should load netbui. Second if you are using a hub, use straight through cable.
