The photo at that links sure does Not look like any fx card I've seen in magazines or other links.... Maybe a spoof??

Maybe their Commercial / Professional version of the card??

Yeah, thats the card, but it is pictured without the massive hsf. In one version, the hsf uses heat pipes to carry heat from underneath the card, if I am not mistaken. This means you will have the first pci slot empty. One should anyway tho.
Anyone for a loan?

Yeah.. did nvidia think about the people who won't have the free PCI slot? I mean, I have tons of PCI slots on my mobo, but does everyone have one to spare?

I know I rarely have a "spare" in my machines.... Even if a card is not occupying the space, things like USB or FireWire ports sure are!!

with the "newer" boards everythings pretty much on them so they dont take up any slots. only thing in mine is the vid card.

One day I retire my "older" A7V333 for the A7N8X --- it's the waiting that hurts.... (and that's not to menion my puny little 1800+ --- drooling, drooling, drooling.... I want my 2600+ 333!!)

Man, how can you take up 5-6 PCI slots? For me, all I have in is modem/sound, and nothing else.

I think you are probably taking in general, but here's my layout:

7 openings in back...

1) AGP vid card - that makes one opening unavailible
2) see above
3) USB / game ports
4) Audigy
5) DSL input
6) NIC
7) modem, dialup, for answering machine (but recently removed)

That's how I fill mine up.....

I just came to the realization 2 days ago when I replaced my old soundcard that I only have 1 spot free. I've got:
1) AGP card
2) nothing
3) NIC
4) Sound Card
5) Game port coming out of sound card
6) USB expansions
7) Cold Cathode on/off switch.

So I only actually have 3 cards including my video card. But 6 spots used up. Not good.. I will probably remove the game port if I get another card seeing as I don't use it.

Now about the GfFX, I thought it was going to be $400 and $500. That site probably says that it's that much money because I would imagine it's a preorder.

Hi Alienware_Dude,

Actually, good guess, but "not exactly." :) My mobo supplies 6 USB ports. Four are in that rectangular area that the keyboard and mouse plug into, and the other two can either go into an empty PCI slot, or go to the front panel in the case (which my case doesn't have).

So, no I don't have a separte USB card, just need the room to use all 6 USB ports provided by onboard USB.

Also, in with the two additional USB 2.0 ports is the joy stick / game adapter (which I don't use).

Now I understand completely! :D The Asus A7V266-E that I'm about to do a build with uses the same 'USB Expansion' scheme via a PCI slot, so I'll get to experience it myself! :D

My memory really bugs me sometimes, because I was just reading an article last night on a site and can't remember which one it was. But the writer was saying a retail outlet was quoting $499 which he was doubtful about. He seemed to think $399, like the Radeon 9700 was upon release.
He pointed out that all the original release cards will only be manufactured by Nvidia this time, prolly to insure quality.

From the previews I've read, the expected prices are right along with what Tim said...$400-500. If they could put the card out for about $300, ATI would greatly resemble the Titanic. :D

I just got my new issue of Maximum PC that, on the cover, sez they have benchmarked the fx. Gotta read that, and maybe they'll have some insight on price and availibilty.....

Yes, it out, and always, it's a nice issue..... except for the one pager on the fx.....

It was just a tease :( It was a beta board, and they were not allowed to run a full suite of benchmarks on it. It seems like the fx will be a winner, but as I've said before, I'll wait for benchmarks on a full retail card.

They also indicate that it (the fx) should go retail by Feb or March. An no mention on pricing...

TechTV just did some benchmarking on the fx 5800, but still with not ready for prime time drivers, and a beta card.

It again seems to win most benchmarks, but not all. I'll still wait for the final, retail benchmarks, but priliminary results are that it's not the 9700 killer I'd thought it would be.....
