I just installed my ti4200 form gainward. I heard this card can be overclocked easily. Can someone step me through this. Is this a good idea?

Yes, it is a good idea, just don't push it. Your card came with EXPERTool, correct? It should be on the driver disc. Install it, then go to the Performance tab. Up the Core/Memory speed by about 5MHz, then run 3Dmark2001, rinse, and repeat. If you see any wierd glitches, then you've gone too far. Just make sure you load EXPERTool at startup, or the clocks revert back to default. Good luck!

To me, that's a painful process to go through every time by upping 5 mhz since 3dmark takes forever to run....

Well, it helps to make sure you don't fry your card.

Up by 30-40 mhz right when you get it...i did...then one one of your faverite scenes in 3dmarks...and be ready to abort if anything pops up...

I prefer AlienWare's take on this question....

Set the core to 300 if it is not there, if it is set it to 315. Then hit the mem 20 and bench. I go in 10MHz increments when fine tuning an oc, if say 500 gets arts, then dropping it to 490 will clean it right up, with some margin of safety.

If you want to be carefull. But I know the full extenet of my card very well. And WEll if you didnt get a defect Right out of the box you can raise it 30 mhz and still be withen the warrenty....so 40 mhz is actually much. only 10mhz past the warranty.

jsut to give you an Idea with that exact same card I am running 315/620 right now

It was only my opinion; I used my method to overclock my card, so I figured that it was OK.

How do I check somehting in 3dmark?

Are there any negetive effects of over clocking, or are there only negetive effects if you go over your cards limit? If I up it about 30mhz will this cause extra heat?

Upping the speed by any amount will cause more heat, but not necessarily heat problems. If you go over the limit, you'll notice strange glitches in 3D games, and you may experience lockups/crashes.

can i use 3d mark 2003 instead of 2001?

Yes.

I upped it to 277/ 529 and I got a 10396 on the 2001 3d mark. That bad?

That's a great score. I'll bet you can get the Core up at *least* another 10MHz, but it's up to you.
