Slow slow I GIVE UP!

I'm using IE 6 sp1
I attempt to use the Microsoft update ... just drags on forever ... I used to have this work in a flash, I get to accept the agreement and proceed to download and .... nothing.
I go to a web page click on a link .... drags on forever I end up closing the page and sometimes closing the computer all together.
This has been going on for about 3 weeks.
These are the software that I had installed and since removed.
Window washer
Pop up killer
Windows messenger

have you cleared your cache in ie lately, clear cookies, scandisk ,defrag.with messenger it is not easy to remove there is a way to do it ill see if i can find a link
