I want to set up a place, very simply, and definately not a web page, where I can upload a photo or whatever, and then just send the address to friends, who have slow dial up, so they can go and look at it quickly rather than downloading it. How can I do that ??
Do the portals like Yahoo etc. have some way of hosting something like that for free ? Which do you recommend ?
I expect its going to be a pop up jungle, so if anyone knows of a
ad free location for a small monthly fee that might be better.
My AT&T cable server offers free hosting of web pages but I couldn't get it to work... Maybe I need an address for a tutorial.
Thanks,
Chris.

Hi Parangles,

You can find many online services that do exactly that (free and pay) here (http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Virtual_Disk_Drives/Photo_Sharing/). Hope that helps.

Yahoo, MSN and Excite all offer free photo alblum space to their members.

As well there are a number of really good free online photoablums. I did not find that they had a lot of pop ups, but even so, it is a free service and the someone has to pay for it.

Here are two you could try:

http://atlantic.photoisland.com/

http://www.ofoto.com/

I use both and have had no trouble. I also use yahoo.

Did you try wsftp? You can get it at download.com. You should be able to ftp your pics to your isp. It took a little bit to figure out the settings (at&t should have some kind of help page for you) but once I figured it out it was a breeze. For example I put this pic up for my friends and family.

That is some fish dtro. Is it a species of Catfish? It looks like it but I have never seen one that color or size before. Ours here in Ontario are a dark grey color and much smaller.

yeah, its a flathead catfish, don't know if you have those in canada I'm in minnesota and caught that one in the minnesota river. Believe it or not the record is more than twice that size!

Wow that is something, dtro.

Parangles I went and checked at both of the links I gave you above. Niether of the sites have annoying pop ups. In fact there is very little advertising in the alblums at all.

You could try YAHOO GROUP too. It's free. They have been here for so long time now. I've seen sites come and go. It's a lil bit hassle to DL pix all over again if the site closes.

Even if they just want to view it on a website, they are still downloading it...there's no speed increase, and it may actually be slower than emailing it.
