No Color On Tv Out!!! Help!!!

I JUST BOUGHT THE RADEON, AND I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TV OUT, THERE IS NO COLOR ON THE TV, BUT IT WORKS FINE UNDER EVERY SCREEN RESOLUTION. I AM USING AN S-VIDEO TO RCA CONNECTOR TO MY VCR SINCE MY TV DOESN'T HAVE RCA OR S-VIDEO IN. SO BASICALLY, I AM TRYING TO USE MY TV AS MY COMPUTER SCREEN AND THERE IS NO COLOR. WHAT CAN I DO?? YOUR REPLIES ARE GREATLY APPRICIATED.

Sounds like a cabling issue to me. Try different s-video and rca cables. Check all connections. Check for bent/missing pins on the s-video cable. Check for good contact at the adapter. Also, make sure that your video card doesn't require a special dongle-type adapter. Not all cards use straight s-video out, some of the are wired differently and require a propritary adapter.

That is exactly right wschino, and I think you'll find that almost every member here is willing to lend a hand any time they get a chance. Every question might not get answered immediately after you've posted it, but it will usually get an answer if you ask it in a respectful manner. I tried using different cables and even two other VCRs. Came up with the same results. Still black and white. I'm going to try a different TV next.

Have you tried looking in display settings ==> Advanced for an option to change it to colour.

Have you selected the correct video format like NTSC or PAL. I know when I change my PAL card to NTSC it goes B&W.

Yeah I tried all the different PAL settings but I think I'm supposed to be using NTSC for USA.

Dont rule out that the cord might be bad. S-video cables keep the luma (black & white) and color seperate. The cable you have has to combine the 2 into one RCA jack. Could be the cable isn't combining the 2.

I just got done trying out the two in one on both ends of the RCA. Still no color. I also wrote an email to ATI's Tech Support and depending on what they say I might just sell this card and go for a Nvidia. Thanks for the help anyways guys.

I got an Aopen Aeolus TI4200 for Christmas with video in and video out. It's $159 at www.mwave.com Or you can get a Geforce4 MX440 with video out for around $60-75.

I had a similar problem, and in my case it wasnt the video card, but it was the television. When i tried the tv-out on the older television (without s-video/audio plugs, like the one you are using) i would get b&w. But when i tried it on newer tele it would have colour and work great. so if you have another television that you can try it on, give it a go and you might save some money from buying another v-card :)

I just noticed today that there is a jumper setting right on the card. The settings are for NTSC and PAL. The jumper was on PAL to begin with. Then I switched it over to NTSC. Still no luck. Oh well. Anybody wan't to buy a 27" TV?

Did you try to turn your monitor off?
There are cards that can not view both monitors and tv at the same time..

Yeah I tried that too. I'm pretty sure I just need a newer TV with S-Video out.

What you need it a tv with svideo in not out.

And the radeon 7500 does support multiple monitors. in other words you can view both TV and your monitor at once

I would definitly try another svideo cable.

Oops that's what I meant. A TV with S-video in. But do you think trying another s-video adapter cable might work?

The cable that you have now, is it s-video on one end and one rca phono on the other end or does it have two rca phonos on the other end?

It's an S-Video male on one end and RCA female on the other. I also have a RCA male to two female RCA cord that I have tried all together.

I've got the same problem. I used to have my geforce 4mx 440 connected through the svideo input of my cousin's tv and the picture and color was great. But since he moved out I've had to connect it through the rca input using an s-video to rca adapter. It worked great for a while, but the color is all washed out looking. I'm assuming my cable is dying since it got progressively worse over a few weeks.

Next thing I'd do if you can is find a friend with a tv with a s-video input on it and try it. There could be acouple of problems. The card may not be putting out any color on the s-video output. The card may not be putting out any or a strong enough 3.58Mhz color burst signal. If the tv doesn't see the color burst signal it thinks it is recieving a black & white signal and turns off the color circuits. If it works on a set with s-video you need a new tv. If it doesn't work you need a new card.

It could be the s-video to rca adapter that's the problem. In my case, I have now tried multiple s-video cables and rca cables with no luck. So that leaves my video card which always used to work right or the adapter. Considering my problems began after I got the adapter I would guess that that is the problem in my case at least.

I'm going to try a number of things now since I have all these different ideas. Different cables, a TV with built in RCA outs(since I am using a TV that only has coaxial out to my VCR), and of course a TV with S-Video in. I think I'll just send this card back to newegg for another one and see if that helps.
