Help Closing down

When I close down in XP my P C will not shut of I hear a Click from the base unit, but the P C stays, on can you help

What are the system specs?

The click might be coming from the power supply trying to turn itself off but can't for some reason.

My P C is a new home first time build 4weeks old, in fact I had a few problems with the build that you helped on, thanks for that

Spec AMD 2200+
Board Gigabite altra
gigabite graphic's card
sound S B 6.1
512 ddr
20gig maxom drive

I hope to be able to resolve this problem with the site that you gave me, but any help you can give would be nice

I have downloaded the upgrades from the site when trying to install the upgrade, XP reports that this update is not suitable for my ver of XP

I have already installed SP1 some time ago is this what XP is reporting that i don't need this update

have you enabled apm in the bios and in windows go to start help and search for apm

I must missing something here in A P M? there is nothing in the bios that refers to APM or in find sorry but am I just being Thick

if you lanch windows help and in the search box type apm and then hit the grean search arrow it will bring up about 15 resoults
all so look in the bios under power management wright down what it says and post hear

I don't think you'll find it.

Newer motherboards BIOSs use ACPI instead of APM. When you install W2K/XP, the OS will check if the motherboard is ACPI compliant and, if so, load ACPI drivers. If it isn't ACPI compliant, then it will attempt to install APM drivers.

So with a new motherboard, it's safe to assume that ACPI is being used (unless W2K/XP was purposely installed with another Hal).

Try disabling the all the Power Management options in Power Options in the Control Panel and see if that helps e.g. Standby, Hibernate etc.

APM is in control pnl under power options click on apm tab then check to see if it is enabled .if you reformatte win2000 will not set this you have to from experience that is.
