I'm reading: Build Your Own Server
by M.A. Dockter.
http://www.pcmech.com/byos/step/1/

I'm building a server just so I can host my own pages only about 50 megs. I do not want to use my main comp because my wife uses it diring the day and kills it everytime. I have ATT cable. and a linksys router. I've built many computers but have no experence with servers.

1. Why would I need a network card?http://www.pcmech.com/byos/step/1/

2. I'm sure many of you are on ATT ,Is there any trouble with them and your user agreement? This is going to be a very low bandwith site.

3. Any advice you can give is great.

If you already have a computer built, and it's connected to the net, you don't need another network card.
The network card connects your computer to the Linksys.
What you DO need is a full time connection to the net, and the right software to host the site.
You will also have to open the correct ports on the Linksys for the server, or everyone will get a 403 error.
I'm almost positive that hosting ANY kind of server is a violation of your contract with ATT. I would recommend finding out about slightly more expensive packages that may allow you to run a server, and pay, based on bandwidth usage.

Generally, the only way your ISP contract will be violated is if you are hosting a site for business purposes where you are actually taking orders and stuff. My dad had an informational site for his business, just some photos and info and it was fine. AT&T may be different than Ameritech in that regard, but that should be the case.

Less than $10 a month will get you a webhost that can host your domain, site, and pop e-mail - why take the chance of AT&T possibly getting ticked off?
