Newegg TAX option?!?! WTF?

When I was filling out the info to order something on newegg for first time it asked me where I live and the tax option in that place. There was optioni (No Tax)

Explain to me what the heck this is. WHat is it for or what am I supposed to pick.

Since Newegg is physically located in California, they have to collect sales tax from customers buying in California. They're under no obligation to collect sales tax from customers buying in other states.

The list appears to be full of cities in California, so pick the city where you live.

I'm guessing since you live in CA they might charge you sales tax, not sure though.

oh alright. THe thing is that's what's what I thought cause I live in CA. But the weirdest thing is that there was an option for NO TAX. BUt how is that possible? So I thought maybe it's cause they're not in california, but since you do live in california then ok.

No tax is there for customers buying from another state.

If you were to pick the no tax option, I'm quite certain they'd correct it and charge you sales tax for your local area from your address.

The no tax option is also for resellers that have a valid tax ID.

Also if you worked for a nonprofit organization or other tax-exempt organization, like a church, you can get a tax exempt number, and you'd give that to them and say "no tax".

speaking of not tax. Are their any good website like newegg that are outside of california.Kind of tired paying taxes.

That would be correct, no tax if you live in another state. BUT, you are legally required to inform your resident state of the purchase and then pay the local sales tax.

Where I live, small purchases' can be held until income tax time, and then declared and payed all at once, or if it is a large purchase, (say a car), then the tax is to be payed as soon as possible.

That's news to me. My accountant has never said anything to me about that one and I have been purchasing stuff out of state via mail order and web for a lot of years.

PMich: Its a technical legality - you are technically supposed to report and pay 5% "use tax" on out of state purchases in IL. Believe me, Springfield is trying to find a way to enforce it but it's not practical - yet.

We are not required to pay sales tax on our out of state purchases here unless the business also has a retail store here in state. Oddly enough you can pay them if you "want" to. I have always been curious if anyone actually does.
